It’s All very Amusing

I love amusement parks, and so does Kylie. In fact, she is still dreaming of the day when she and Lucas can go to an amusement park together. You see, because Lucas was brought up as a supernatural (and werewolves are pretty much as supernatural as you can get!), he didn’t have a normal upbringing. He never did the normal things that human teens did like spend the day at an amusement park. Kylie was fortunate enough to be able to do all those normal growing up activities, and now she wants to share some of those fun things with Lucas. Because, when you care about someone, you naturally want to share everything with them—especially things you love.

As a kid, every summer I would go to Six Flags Over Georgia. Or we’d take off to Florida and do Disney World, or go to one of the theme parks in Tennessee. I can still remember the cotton candy, the hot dogs and the rides. Now, I can’t even remember which park it was– I’m sure I blocked it out of my mind–but the ride was an old fashioned wooden rollercoaster. Let me tell you, it scared the beegeezus out of me. It creaked and moaned and sounded like it would break apart throughout the entire ride—the longest 2 minutes and 15 seconds of my life! Now you might be wondering what got me thinking about amusement parks, well, I’m going to one this week. Well, it’s not really an amusement park, it’s a virtual amusement park. Barbara Vey, a friend of mine, is having a week long party celebrating her fifth year as a blogger for Publishers Weekly’s Beyond Her Books. And on March 8th, she is having a very special young adult author’s party, and the theme for the day is amusement parks. It’s sort of like a live chat, everyone makes posts and leaves comments, and when the week is over, Barbara gives away lots and lots of prizes. Last year, Barbara had tons of giveaways from many young adult authors, and this year looks to be even bigger! I’m going to be giving away a copy of Born at Midnight, a Shadow Falls t-shirt and other cool stuff. However, St. Martins is also giving away some other Shadow Falls books. Even a few copies of Taken at Dusk. So you have to come by and celebrate with your favorite authors and you could win some great prizes. I’ve already decided that I’m bringing cotton candy to the party. Oh, and if there’s any wooden roller coasters, I’m telling you right now, I’m going to chicken out.

http://blogs.publishersweekly.com/blogs/beyondherbook/

So, I hope to see you at the party. And since we’re on the subject…how do you guys feel about roller coasters? Do you have a favorite theme park? A great memory from a day spent riding roller coasters and Ferris wheels? What is your favorite ride?

Oh, to one lucky poster, I’m going to send a Shadow Falls T-shirt and an ARC of Taken at Dusk. So make sure you leave a comment.

  1. I feel the same exact thing when it comes to roller coasters virtual online party sounds great and I just have to say the shadow falls series led me to love the world of literature and helped me see the path I want to be on when I apply for college so thank you again C.C Hunter.

  2. Rollercoasters…=LOVE, I have to say that I love the thrill of riding a rollercoaster and spinning upside down on it…….I may be an adrenaline junkie 😉
An ARC of Taken At Dusk??? How do we enter? Just comment??????
(I love Authors that do ARC-giveaway’s…<3)

  3. I love theme parks! I love the adrenaline rush of when the ride is about to go upside down, that feeling in your stomach is great! Wish I could go to a theme park everyday!…But then I’d be skint =/ haha

    Tasnim x

  4. I am an amusement park junkie! My problem though is I have motion sickness. I used to not be able to go on any upside down coasters. It’s gotten better as I’ve gotten older, and I can now deal with the upside down ones, but the backwards ones are still a challenge. And don’t even get me started on the tea-cups! 🙂

  5. I love rollar coasters as well! Of course it’s been years since I actually rode one! Get a headache if they’re too jerky, but still! They are just too fun! Although I tend to wimp out if they go upside down! Rode one for the first time a few years ago and was a little too panicked for the duration of the ride!

Also enjoy log flume rides! Those are fun, especially on hot days!

  6. I love amusement parks! Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, Missouri is home to the one and only roller coaster that I’ve ridden. And it was fun, terrifying, but fun. After watching Final Destination 3, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to take the plunge and ride another 🙂

  7. I love amusement parks . im from australia so our amusement parks are mainly on the coast so the last time i went i was 10 ,so i was a little short some of the more daring rides but fun never the less.

  8. I love roller coasters. I actually went on my first one this summer at Cedar Point. I was totally afraid and my dad somehow convinced me to go on the second largest roller coaster there. The millennium force as my 3rd roller coaster ever in the history of my life is totally crazy. We ended up riding about 10 roller coasters that day and my favorite was the iron dragon where you hang down from the track.
    Bye Izzy

  9. I absolutely ADORE roller coasters. It kind of a love hate relationship though. On one hand I am absolutly terrified of heights but on the other hand there is nothing better than that adrenaline rush and knot in your stomach that you get as you fall. My best amusement park memory had to be when I drove 5 hours to New Jersey to go to the six flags there. It was definitely worth the ride because that particular six flags is home to the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world! Its called the King Da Ka and the thing is 44 stories tall with a straight plummet to the ground, not to mention the fact the you are launched up there at 144 mph. It only lasts just under a minute but boy was it a rush. Best. Roller Coaster. Ever.

I can’t wait to read more about Kylie and Lucas’s relationship. I love them together! I am so hooked on your writing C.C., I forgot how mush I loved to read.

    Sincerely,
Just Another Fan Patiently Waiting For April 10th

  10. I love amusment parks, but I haven’t been on a lot of roller coasters…so I don’t know witch is my fav. But I love Ferris Wheels! It’s fun to see the tiny people and in a way it can be romantic at night with all the lights and you have to be with your special someone (not that I have ever done it 🙁 but it it looks and seems like a good idea XD ) I really want to go to that online party!

  11. I am the same as you! I love rollercoasters but wooden ones scare me sooo much! They sound all old like they are going to break! Ahhh!

  12. Thanks for all the comments, guys!!

I love hearing your thoughts. Make sure you stop in Thursday and make sure you come back next Tuesday to find out who won the ARC and t-shirt.

  13. So I know this is a day late, but I wanted to comment anyway. I just finished reading the first two books in the Shadow Falls series (twice…in a row…if you want to get specific), and I LOVED them. Seriously thought that they were amazing and I loved the diversity and depth of the characters.

Anywho, moving right int roller coasters. I think they’re flippin’ sweet! I love the adrenaline rush that comes right before the ride starts, and the feeling of my stomach being left behind when the ride takes a drastic drop. So fun.

Thanks for writing such awesome books!

  14. i have gotten to the line at 6 flags. 16 yrs ago. it was my turn to get in and i couldnt, LOL i came down the stairs with ppl coming up. dragging 1 of my kids behind me, with them yelping, ‘i wanna ride’ (they rode later with their father ,lol)

  15. I would have to day the Superman at 6 Flags over Ga. It scared the bejeeeesus out of me the first time I rode it. After the initial scare, I loved it!!! Have a great day Christie…Hugs!

  16. Im not really a big roller coaster girl. Though, I will take a rid on a really crazy one once in awhile. I went to Virginia to one of the amusement parks there and had a blast going on their newest roller coaster. It had the highest drop around and was AMAZING!! It was one of those rides where your legs are free and you have a harness around your upper half.

Thanks for this giveaway and I can’t wait till the 8th!!

  17. Well now I feel all left out. I’ve never been on a roller coaster or to an amusement park. :/ Guess I’ll be sitting this one out.

  18. ohh im scared of rollercoasters.. used to go on em as a kid and my dad would inevitably end up going ‘ LOOK WHATS THAT’ and point in a direction.. opposite of a big hill or loop or something coming up in the roller coaster so i wouldnt know it was coming… i do like water parks though.. we used to either go to Toronto (Ontario Canada) or drive to cedar point (In ohio i think)

  19. I love amusement parks! I must say the food is what draws me to them the most funnel cakes and fried dough mmmmmm delicious. The water parks are where i usually where i end up they are kind of like the closest I get to beaches so going there brings me peace and excitement at the same time. I love the smaller rides also like Music Fest and the Ferris wheel, I guess I feel super safe and secure in those rides and I usually venture to those when I get to the rides section of amusement parks. Oh and when it comes to roller coasters I usually have to be begged to go on them. Its not the height that gets me but the first BIG DROP! After that its an adrenaline rush and I can’t wait to ride it again. I’m kind of like Kylie in a way I guess, how she had to get a feel for Shadow Falls before she accepted her surroundings and had that feeling of wanting to come back to the camp.

  20. I love your books and I can’t wait to read Taken at Dusk. I just finished Turned at Dark and I loved it! I’m excited to see how everything plays out and how Kylie’s meeting with her grandparents goes. Also, Lucas is so much awesomer than Derek.

  21. I LOVE amusement parks! I haven’t been to a wide variety of them, but I love going to Six Flags 🙂 I go every year, but my favorite time to go is during halloween when they do Fright Fest! Spooky stuff!!

  22. I’ve only gotten on one ride before at a carnival, and it was so scary but so fun I loved it 🙂 my hubby and i plan to go to six flags this summer since we only live like an hour away from the park! btw i love this series im halfway done with awake at dawn, im trying to read it all before the next one comes out<3 so excited!!

have fun at the park cc 🙂

  23. I remember when I was terrified of rollar coasters. Especially really high ones, and ones that go upsidedown. But now, ever since my school trip to Disney, I LOVE rollar coasters. 😀 yay!

    I love your books and I can’t wait ’til April 10th! 🙂

    -Liz

  24. Here in the Texas panhandle, we have a small amusement park called Wonderland Park. We have taken our kids and now our grandkids there for the last 30 years – we always have a blast!!!

  25. I used to like roller coasters just fine, but as I got older my fear of heights grew.

Since I still love theme parks I simply go there to absorb the “special feeling”, ride on “baby rides” and stuff myself with sweets and junk food – there are worse ways to spend a day 😉

  26. Used to love roller coasters but the older I get the sicker they make me 🙁
So I better stick to cotton candy and the “baby rides” 🙂

  27. I love roller coasters, but what I love more are the rides where you basically just get water thrown on you lol! Theme parks are so much fun! 😀

  28. Rollercoaster are fun if you aren’t afride of heights which is me. I’m afride of heights yet for some reason I still go on rollercoaster. Why I do so who knows, probably cause my friend drags me onto them cause I don’t get sick like our other friend who does T_T
    Thanks for the great giveaway!!

  29. I don’t like theme parks because I have a fear of heights. If all my friends go, then as boring as this sounds, I’ll just stand there and watch them go on rides 🙁

  30. I’m such an adrenaline junkie, I love anything that can get my heart pumping! The first time I rode a “real” roller coaster I was 6 with my dad. Lucky for me I’ve been 5’11” since 5th grade so I was tall enough to ride. I rode the Mind Eraser at Adventure Land (now Six Flags). I haven’t been to an amusement park in years, but after reading this post I will have to go very soon. On a different note, I’m so excited for Taken At Dusk to come out!!!!

  31. ROLLERCOASTERS! I am a rollercoaster addict, from the adrenaline rush to the loopty loops, to the my heads spinning in a circle feeling. I have a demented sense of fun 😉 I think the wooden rollercoaster might be from Busch Gardens.

ARC Giveaway!!! And a Shadow Falls T-shirt?!?!?! I think I might break the chair I’m sitting in I am bouncing up and down in excitement!!! I love all the covers you have for your books, and their book titles too. There’s just a ring to them: Born At Midnight, Awake At Dawn (thats my favorite cover), Taken At Dusk…aww…I’m in book heaven…

Well that’s the end of my dramatics,
    X’s & O’s
    LiZz ^_~

  32. I really dislike rollercoasters. They are just dreadful! I remeber my first rollercoaster ride (one of my earlier bad experiences) was at DisneyWorld. My family and I went onto the one that had planes and Goffy as the theme. So, I was so excited. I couldn’t wait! This will be so cool! I realized that it wasn’t all rainbows and unicorns as soon as we got to the tippy top and discovered what goes up most come down… Hard! I was freaked out for quite awhile once we got off. So, rollercoasters = death : ( On a brighter note, I am so excited for the next book! Love the cover by the way.

  33. I love theme parks, my best memory would have to be the times I went with my all my cousins when I was younger. I grew up with my cousins so 7 kids in one house is always loud and fun! Add roller coasters, and games to all that and its heaven at least for the kids, not so much for our parents lol My fav. ride would have to be anything that would get us wet lol I love water rides they’re the best

  34. I love roller coasters!! The thrill of getting on them is such a rush!! The only things I really can’t handle are the free-falling rides… They get to me like no other ride can!! An arc of Taken at Dusk is awesome!!! I love this series and I absolutely cannot wait for this book to come out!!

    Thank you for this giveaway!!!

  35. Im a huuuge fan of amusement parks. The world just takes on this dreamy sureal quality to it. It can be 100+° out and no one cares! (well maybe the parents) Its all about the sights, sounds, and smells blended into a cacophony of fun! Now personally, I love rollar coasters. You have that slow chug up to the top where everyone becomes soooo tiny. And all the while your heart rate speeds up and you get positively giddy with anticipation. Just as you crest the hump you just might have one second thought but its already too late. Your stomach lurches into your throat and all you can do is smile, giggle, or maybe even scream. And before you know it, the ride is over. The car has come to a stop and you have to let someone else have a turn. Its very similar to a good series that way. As soon as you’re done you’re jumping back in line ready to do it all over again. But always, always, impatiently cause these things can never get here soon enough. Hopefully time will speed up some and that long awaited day will come.

  36. I’ve lived my whole life about 30 minutes from a amusement park in rural PA called Knoebels. It has amazing wooden roller coasters and just finished building a trackless wooden roller coaster (I haven’t ridden it yet, but can’t wait to go for a ride). The best part about living so close to Knoebels is that there is no admittance price, you just buy a book of tickets and pay as you go. Since I lived so close I remember going there once just to eat a funnel cake and take a spine on my favorite roller coaster.

  37. I am sooooo looking forward to your latest Shadow Falls novel! Team Lucas all the way! I used to go to Six Flags almost every weekend when I lived in California. So many good memories 🙂 I don’t know that I had a favorite ride, but one stands out the most. There was one movie themed ride where you’re watching this short film in 3D called Tony the Dinosaur. Your chair seats would move and everything was so creepy! I couldn’t even tell what the film was about, because the two times I went in there I covered my eyes and cried the entire time, lol!

  38. i cant wait to read ur next shadow falls book. i love roller coasters they are the best. i find myself scared at the beginning but having fun and wanting to rid again by the end of the first one. i use to go all the time to amusment parks but now that i am a single mother i only have money to go every now and then. cant wait to see how this book goes.

  39. I used to be terrified of roller coasters but I overcame my fear by riding Dueling Dragons at Island of Adventures in Orlando and now its my favorite ride! Although I think they made it into a Harry Potter ride now. Anyways I can not wait til Taken at Dusk is released and I’m super excited for the chance of winning an arc! Your such an amazing writer and I love the Shadow Falls series!

  40. I love roller coasters. The only problem is, after having my daughter I get motion sickness really easy so I can’t stomach the really fun ones with twists and loops. We have a local Six Flags so I used to get a seasons pass and go all the time. Thanks for the chance at this awesome giveaway!

  41. I’m SO excited for this next book! I’m not really into rollercoasters. I think it may be due to a babysitting trip to Astroworld once where I rode every ride with a sweet little boy….but it scared me silly! The biggest roller coaster I’ve been on is just every day life, which can be every scarier sometimes! Thanks for all your hard work and I cannot wait to read “Taken at Dusk”!!! 🙂

(you should definitely make a trip up to College Station to promote the book!) 🙂

  42. I like roller coaster they are fun. But iam a scared to do the big crazy ones :). So far i dont have a great memory but maybe i will get one when my girls get old enough to try them! Thanks for the chance . You are awesome can’t wait for Taken at Dusk

  43. Don’t like rollercoasters – never have, but love your Shadow Falls Series! I can’t wait for Taken at Dusk. I haven’t decided if I am Team Lucas or Team Derek yet. They both have their good qualities!! I met you when you came to Clear Lake High School and hope you have a book signing in the area when Taken at Dusk comes out. I love it when I can get all books in a series signed by the author. Great job! Keep up the good work and write as fast as you can!

  44. well I’ve been to so many different fair type carnivals and also amusement parks in my life, for me it’s hard to pick my favorite because I love the thrill and adrenaline. I’ve gone to Six Flags NJ, Disney World, Universal and a place called Canobie Lake Park! To pick a favorite rollercoaster is to hard for me because each one has different things I love. A newer rollercoaster I went on some what recently was the Harry Potter one at Universal! It was fast and oh my so fun, flipping upside down, at times feeling like you’re gunna hit the next rollercoaster because no its not one cart it’s to carts that go at the same time! your feet dangle off so either you leave them at the boarding area or hold them through the ride! oh yeah I was crazy enough to hold them and luckily didn’t lose one either lol! my favorite fair ride though is between the zipper and the skymaster both rides I went on with my aunt who is like my bestie for the first time, and they are by far my two favorite rides I always go on! I love the rush and adrenaline the fear yet the craziness of it all. even when the rides creak and moan, though scary – yes-, I love that rush that makes its feel even more so once you make it off alive lol.

love your books can’t wait for taken at dusk, lol

  45. I love amusement parks, especially roller coasters. I was scared of them until i actually went on one and i was hooked! 🙂 I love your books btw. I breezed right through Born at Midnight because i couldn’t put it down 🙂

  46. I love theme parks, especially Great America (Illinois). The only down thing is there’s always a lot of people and you spend more time waiting in line for a roller coasters than you do on the actual ride. Anyways, I find the thrill worth waiting a long time… I hope Lucas will love his human experience and not go werewolf-ish n Kylie 😛 Haha xD

  47. As a kid, I use to love roller coasters. My favorite being the mindbender at Six Flags over GA. However, as I got older I tend to stay away from them. Maybe it is the wind or the high speeds. Not really sure what.

  48. Love your books so much I just finished the first two right before coming on your site I love the way your characters are evolving and how your books have become apart of my family’s home I am going to try to make it Thursday and favorite ride hands down would have to be the log ride at knotts berry farm

  49. This sounds awesome I cant wait. My favorite time at a ride park was one in England it was an indoor water park and it was crazy. There biggest ride is calls “the big splash ” its so fast and it ends with a big splash! .btw c,c u might be talking about the wooden snake ride they have thereat the six flags in Texas 🙂

  50. I love amusment parks but I’m not a big fan of anything with dips I don’t like the free fall feeling but I love anything that goes fast.

  51. I’m originally from the AL/GA/TN tristate area and the two wooden rollercoasters I remember from my youth were The Cannonball at Lake Winnepesauka and The Great American Scream Machine at Six Flags Over Georgia. I loved both of them but The Cannonball took extra courage to ride because it seemed a stiff breeze would cause the entire track to collapse. The Scream Machine seemed as though it was maintained much better.

Your YA books and your adult contemporaries make me laugh out loud. I’ve been in dire need of it this past year. Thanks so much.

  52. I love roller coasters! I think they are so much fun. The only ones that I don’t really like though are also wooden ones. They just freak me out, and I always think they are going to break. Cedar Point is my favorite park and I think my favorite ride is Top Thrill Dragster. Can’t wait to check out the celebration!!

  54. I grew up in southern California, we frequented Six Flags, Disneyland, and Knotts Berry Farm. I didn’t like the scary big roller coasters until I was older 11 I think is whan I rode my first big one and it was Batman and I almost lost my shoe because it wasn’t on tight enough! After that I was hooked! the bigger the better. My favorite was The Riddler at Six Flags until we went one Halloween and you could ride the big wooden roller coaster “The Colossus” sitting backwards! It was so much fun! When my kids are old enough I am for sure going to take them to do that!
