Happy Thanksgiving!

It’s Thanksgiving.  Boy Howdy!  What a couple of months I’ve had.   A whole boat load of things for which to be thankful–four book releases—two by C.C. Hunter, and two by Christie Craig—one kidney transplant, a wedding anniversary, and a birthday.  (Not my kidney transplant, my hubby’s, but and since I’m his spouse, I’m gonna claim it.) And the one I’m proudest of?  Sorry fans, that kidney comes first.

I didn’t talk about my husband’s health issues a lot.  Hubby, who loves to keep everyone laughing, didn’t want his hard times out there.  But after almost five years of dialysis, it had taken its toll.  To anyone who has dealt with a chronic illness of a spouse or a loved one, you know the heart break, the fears, and the emotional roller coaster.  You alternate between having faith, and preparing yourself for the inevitable.

I offered him my kidney, but as a pre-diabetic, I wasn’t a candidate.  My daughter offered him hers.  He wouldn’t take it.  He said she was too young and she might become diabetic because it ran in my family.  My son couldn’t donate because he has PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) like his dad.  His sister couldn’t donate because she has high blood pressure.

The kidney he got was a gift from a donor who had lost his life.  I grieve for the family and loved ones who lost this generous person.  Later on, I will get the chance to write them a letter of thanks, and you can bet I will put my heart and soul into that letter.  I want them to know what this gift has given our family.  And to anyone out there who is debating whether or not to sign up to be a donor, I want to encourage you to do it.  When I no longer need this body, I hope it can offer someone a chance at life.

A lot of people have asked me how I managed to write my humorous tales while we dealt with difficult times.  I have told them that writing isn’t just what I do for a living, writing is my passion, and my salvation.  To put aside my own worries and write a love story that makes me laugh got me through some hard times.  It just goes along with the family motto: if you can laugh at it, you can live with it.  Believe it or not, while we have had some tough times, my family has lived and laughed our way through this last five years.  And we laughed our way through this kidney transplant, too.

So this year, I’m very thankful for a lot of things.  Kidneys, releases, life.   I’m also very thankful for my fans.  You guys make it possible for me to do this.

And here’s a contest for my loyal fans.

I’m giving away two sets of signed hardback copies of Reborn & Eternal.  So leave a comment and tell me what you are thankful for to be entered to win.

  1. This time last year I was almost due with my second child a boy. We already had a girl. No pregnancy is easy but it was full of complications. This year I am thankful to be blessed with two healthy and happy children who teach me new things everyday. I am also thankful for my wonderful husband of 8 years who works very hard so it is possible for me to be a stay at home mom for now.

  2. I’m thankful for how well my mom’s work and my Abuela’s bussiness are going! We have had hard times but we are getting through it and gaining new clients and meeting new people. I’m thankful for my family’s health and happiness. I’m also very thankful for books!! 🙂

  3. I am 24 years old and suffer from a disease since almost 8 years. I lost my two beloved dogs in 2010 and 2012 after 13 years living with them and I still feel like they died just yesterday.
I am so thankful my mum was there for me, even if I havn’t talked to her about their deaths at all.
But nevertheless I pulled myself together and went on with studying and working and right now I am really happy with my new working place.
So, I am really thankful to my mum for everything shed done in my life.

  4. It’s wonderful to hear that everything is going well with your husband. Here’s to many more years together. This year, as usual, I’m thankful for my husband. He’s definitely the cool head in the family! He keeps me from flipping out over trivial things and makes me laugh often.

  5. Glad your husband is doing well. I’m sure that must have been scary.

I’m thankful for my family and friends – especially at this time of year.

  6. I’m so happy for your husband. Losing people is hard but what’s even harder is having a person being unhealthy and everyday you wonder. Are they going to make it? How much longer do we have? What am I going to do with out them if they pass on? How am I going to deal with the grief? All those questions went through my head when my grandpa was diagnosed with cancer. That brings me to what I’m thankful for. I’m thankful that I knew my grandpa even though he wasn’t around a long as I wanted him to be. I’m thankful for having a family that loves and cares for me. Im thankful for my friends that will be there til the end, through bad and good times. I’m thankful for my dog, because when I’m sad she always puts a smile on my face. I’m thankful for music, because music gets me through everything. I’m thankful for having a home, food, and clothes, because I know there are some who are not as fortunate as me. I’m thankful for the veterans that serve out country and give up so much. There are so many more things I’m thankful for (including your books) but most of all I’m thankful for being able to live the life that I live it may not be perfect but its enough for me.

  7. Im very thankful for for my health baby girl, was told for years by different doctors that i would never have kids. I was blessed with my daughter April 2013 , shes changed my life in so many ways. Also for my grandmother whos helped me with everything in life. My dad also has (Polycystic Kidney Disease) and is living with one Kidney. So i can relate. And would also like to thank you for writing these books. Never been the type to read till i picked up Born At Midnight (:

  8. I am thankful for my family, a roof over my head, clothes on my back, life, and books! I know a lot of people dont have any of these so I am thankful for them. I love the Shadow Falls series and I have not read the After Dark part of it yet. Can not wait to get it for Christmas if I don’t get it here!

  9. I’m thankful for so much.
My Mom & Step Dad are in good health. My hubby got a job. My fur babies (Dachshunds) are healthy.
    I’m getting close to retirement!

  10. I’m thankful for my family, especially my Mom and wonderful step dad. Also for my fabulous friends.
So glad to hear your husband is doing well.

  11. I am happy your husband got his kidney transplant! I’m sorry you and your family was going through such a rough time but like you said, you still had your writing and it must have been a nice escape.
I am thankful that all my close loved ones all are in good health, and for my family who support my dreams even when other people tell me to give up. I’m also thankful for authors like you. You’re always so nice, generous, and talented! Without your Shadow Falls Series, I would have fallen into a dark place. When I discovered your books I was going through a lot of personal things but the world of Shadow Falls kept me going. 🙂 It’s a big reason why I love your books so much. (Other than the fact that they are amazing and you are so very talented!)
I hope you have a good Thanksgiving!!

  12. I have to say that I am most thankful for AUTHORS! Yes because without them, there would be no books and without books I would have no sanity! LOL!

Of course I am always grateful/thankful for my family, health, home…the usual!

  13. I am thankful for family. Sometimes you never know what kind of family you have or you grow accustom to them being here, taking them for granted till things like you have gone through happens or like myself just last week we had to lay my brother in law to rest as he pasted way suddenly at the age of 40. It took us all by shock and we are still try to get through it mostly my husband and his parents along with his other brother. So never take family for granted cause you never know. I am very thankful for what family I still have around me even my little ones that drive me bonkers sometimes lol, I still love them and thankful they are here in my life. I am also thankful for getting a chance to read some amazing books!!! I am thankful for getting a chance to see my mom back in August that I had not seen in over 2 years.

  14. So happy for your husband!
It’s so nice that your thankful for so many things, one thing I’m thankful for is books such as yours and reading as its helped me so much through all the ups in downs in my life as I have had some personal issues but books are there to take me somewhere else and show me the world is good

I’m thankful for having a loving family now and the most amazing boyfriend I could ask for as I would not be here or myself if it weren’t for him
I’m thankful for my amazing friends who lift me up and take me as I am

and I’m also thankful to the person that invented Mars bars such awesome little pockets of goodness!

  15. I am thankful for my new baby girl. She is the best thing I’ve ever made. Becoming a mother has been the greatest gift and honor and the best experience. I’m also thankful to have a loving, supportive husband who is such a great dad to our baby girl!

  16. I’m thankful for so many things this year. Just to name a few.. My spouse, my health, my new job, our new rescue dog who has helped me through my mental illness’, my two crazy daughters, and my mother’s sobriety.

  17. I am thankful for my family and everything they have done for me. My dad died from cancer when I was six and my step dad was there for me the whole time. I’m so blessed that he took me under his wing and became the father I have today. I am thankful that he and my mom have supported me throughout my high school career and that they have allowed me to do so many amazing things in my life so far. I am also thankful for being healthy and being granted the gift of sight. Without sight, there would be no reading. Books to me are so special because they allow to expand your knowledge and love for literature in magical ways. Your books are honestly my favorite books of all time! So again, I am thankful for all the opportunities life brings and how blessed I am to have the family I do.

  18. It’s great to still know that there are people out there willing to donate a piece of themselves to a stranger. Happy that you and your family are doing good; you guys all seem to be so nice and giving people. And I hope everyone will continue to do well in the future, take care of your health too :). Love all the new release, and can’t wait for the ones to come!

  19. I am so glad that your husband is okay! I know that when family members are sick, it makes everyday life miserable.
When I was nine, my grandmother passed away because she had lung cancer. I was devastated. I barely had the chance to see her when she was alive, but my dad would always tell me that I was exactly like her. I just feel awful that I cannot know the beautiful person that has given me life, and especially not having the chance to tell her how much I loved her.
When I was twelve, my grandfather passed away. He was very sick, and the second before we put him on oxygen, he stopped breathing. He was a great person with amazing stories to tell, and yet he became too old before I could know what he was really like. I still feel horrible for not being able to know him.
Ever since these incidents happened, I’ve been suffering from severe depression. Every day I would look in the mirror and endure the fact that I was put on this Earth. I hated myself.
But now, I’m okay! I am so, so thankful that God gave me the strength to get through the passing of my grandparents, along with my depression. I could never be happier for what I have, (especially the Shadow Falls books on my shelf!) and I am just so thankful for everything, because there are so many people on this Earth that suffer way more than what I go through, and my selfishness almost got in the way of me realizing that. I am so thankful that God gave me what I have. And I will definitely donate anything I can to help anyone. Thank you!

  20. I am thankful for my family. A coworker’s dad passed away on Sunday and it reminded all of us how fragile life is and to be thankful for your loved ones. I am also thankful for my dogs (all three of them), my job, and my coworkers. I don’t know what I would do without all of them.

  21. I’m most thankful for my new experiences in high school, making new friends, becoming part of your Street Team, getting through another rough time with family, having people there to support me as I begin to write my own book, to know that I always have a shoulder to cry on, and to know that there’s always that one friend who might need you more than anything else to help them through their rough times.
I am also thankful for my Great Grandad still being around since he’s turning 103, my grandma’s, my aunts, my uncles, my cousins (3rd, 4th, ect.) And for the fact that even in times of grief we can still celebrate.
My best friends go through rough times and I try being their crying shoulder, yet when I cry, I try isolating myself. I’m grateful for all the books, friends, family, and oother I have around me.
I’m also thankful for my inspirations. My drama teacher from middle school, the theater kids at high school, all those great people, and authors. My old librarian from middle school, who I keep in contact with. And I am thankful for you, because you give me inspiration and confidence in my own writing that I continue every day.

  22. My mom is also experiencing illness on her kidneys. It is heartbreaking seeing her suffer, but the good thing is, the illness is curable. For one week, we were all anxious and high-strung waiting for the result of her kidney biopsy. It was painful seeing her cry every night while praying that the case wouldn’t get worse. She was very apprehensive since her mom, my grandmother, died because of kidney failure. But in the end, when the doctor smiled at her and announced that the illness is curable and not fatal (but still rare case), we all cried at the same time. A weight lifted on our shoulders and we felt like celebrating. I am very thankful for that. I can’t imagine my life without my mom. I know death is inevitable but I just couldn’t afford to lose my mom any moment.

So happy to hear that you’re husband’s getting well now! 😀

  23. Miracles has its ways of showing up when mostly needed. So by saying that, I am thankful for great family and friends especially my husband who everday and every year I give thanks for him being alive and one piece after 7 years enlisted. He is my life and best friend and sometimes my headache who I dearly love with all my heart. We help each other live everyday and move on with life on to a new chapter and new adventures.

  24. i am thankful for alot of things. But mostly i am thankful for having a loving family and amazing friends, their love and support is all i need, not a day has gone by where i am happy to see them do the things they love, what makes them unique~for that i am thankful. Reading has been a big part of my life so i am thankful to all my favorite authors (C.C Hunter,Lauren Kate,P.C&Kristen Cast,Kiera Cass, Jocelyn Davies,Becca Fitzpatrick etc.) for creating such amazing stories, creating a whole new world and lifestyle i can explore.

  25. Thank you for sharing your story, it made me cry happy tears for your family. Myself and most of my family have made the decision to be donors or to be donated to science, depending on the circumstances. For me I am always thankful for my supportive family and husband (it breaks my heart that so many people do not have this). This is especially true this year while I quit one of my two jobs to go back to school. I would not have been able to do it without them behind me.

  26. Congrats to your husband, not many people are organ donors, I’m not quite sure why if your body is deceased, so why not help save a life so that in a way a small part of you can continue to live on in this world? 🙂
I am thankful for many things, but the one that I am thankful for the most is my mother. In April she was involved in a car accident, so as you can imagine it was a scary time for my family, but I’m blessed to say that she is better now although she will always be in constant pain with her back, but that’s what I’m here for to help her in any way that I can 🙂
I am also thankful that I recently won a scholarship to help me pay for my last semester of my college career, because without it I don’t know what I would have done. And finally I’m thankful for my family, my boyfriend, and the opportunity to have a meal this Thanksgiving, because sadly not many people can have this same blessing every year.
Thank you for keeping all of your fans in our own little world with your awesome books!

  27. I’m glad your husband is fine, cc. I am thankful for my family and friends because without them I would be lonely without anyone to talk to. They are the people I love most. I am also thankful for the experiences I had while I was in school. I have accomplished a lot of things that I am proud of like the grades I’ve earned and the community service I’ve done.

  28. I’m so glad your husband received the new kidney! I wish you all good health. I’m thankful for my good health, although technically not good, but I’m thankful it’s brought me this far. I’m thankful I’m alive and that I have wonderful friends and family by my side. 🙂

  29. i am thankful for my loving family and being able to make it in this world. I love my family and we are blessed at having good jobs and good health and I pray everyday that it stays that way. I read people’s stories of hard times and pray for them and wish them the best. Even if we do come upon hard times we still have family.

  30. I am thankful for many things (personal) ,and C.C Hunter,You are one of them! What would I do without Shadow Falls? Shadow Falls is something me and my friends have in common. We would either be laughing about it ,or discussing something funny (Not creepy) …. I love Della ,but my friends see me more as Miranda. At the end, I was Della because me and my other friend tend to argue a lot! So my other friend ended up being Kylie. Hah! Sorry, I can get off topic a lot.
So that is what i am thankful for.(:

  31. I’m very happy for your husband!!! And it is very hard losing people in a family. Especially this close to a holiday! Speaking of which, I can’t believe Thanksgiving is today!! Before you know it, it’s going to be Christmas!!
I’m thankful for everything. Life’s a privilege that God let me have and I’m still here because of Him. He gave me a wonderful family that I don’t deserve. An a house and warmth and a bed that I can sleep in very night and I don’t have to worry about not having enough food because its there when I look in the fridge. I’m thankful for that because I know that there are thousands if not millions of kids who don’t have anything…no food, no home, and it’s really sad! But God has a plan for them too as we’ll as He has a plan for me. I’m grateful for everything I have, but sadly most of the time I take it for granted.
But one thing I’m also grateful for are authors and books! I don’t think I could live without a paperback in my hand. I constantly have one!! So thanks C.C. Hunter for your amazing books and I also thank other authors for taking your time to write novels for us!! Have a great Thanksgiving!!!!

  32. I’m thankful for everything.the good the bad.but most of all my friends and family. The have helped me along when everything seemed like it wasn’t gonna work out for me. They are the cherry to my pie,the peanut butter to my jelly. Without them I don’t know what would’ve happened to me.they are my world. And my good health and home and my clothes. I’m so very happy for you and your husband

  33. I’m thankful for my family and friends, for life, for education, and most of all I’m thankful for books. Books are everything to me and they’ve change my life so thank you for being such an amazing author and thank you for this awesome giveaway!

BTW? I’m so glad your husband is alright!

  34. It’s so great to hear that even though there were obstacles in your family, you guys were able to overcome it together!! (With the help of the donor. Bless him) That’s what Thanksgiving is all about! To enjoy time with family through thick and thin, and… eat turkey (while being thankful, of course)!! I’m thankful for my family, friends, and great authors like you. High School is very different from Middle School so I have to adapt. It’s been difficult for me because my school is so demanding, but my family helps me keep track of time (and makes sure I don’t procrastinate!), and my friends make life at high school so much easier! I’m thankful for great authors because they make great books that I enjoy reading. I get so lost into a book that I forget the world around me! It’s just that good!!! This is what I’m thankful for!! Oh, And Happy Thanksgiving!! 🙂

  35. I’m thankful for having a family who loves me no matter what, having a roof over my head to protect from the harsh winters of the Midwest, and I’m thankful for the life and opportunities that I have been given. I’m also very thankful for the existence of authors and musicians because music and books are my obsession, and I don’t know how I could live without these things in my life. Life and love are two things I will never take for granted. I hope that everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving, and does not forget that even though we feel unfortunate sometimes there is always someone who has it worse than you. Happy Thanksgiving Everyone 😀

  36. Last year, around December, my dad was struggling through a lot of stuff. I know your pain and I know what you go through with your husband. My dad is diabetic and has gone through so many surgeries its not even funny. Later on in February we found out that my dad was diagnosed with tyroid cancer and that was the reason he had been feeling the way he was. My dad has had 2 surgeries and has gone through radiation to try to get rid of the cancer since then, but the cancer has spread and will not go away. About a month and a half ago my dad went to Houston to do experimental treatments to see if the cancer would go away. They told him that there was nothing they could do for him and that they wanted to see him next April but what they also told him was that the cancer had stopped spreading. My family anf I were so relieved to know that we had and my dad for a little while longer. And that is what I am thankful for this Thanksgiving. I am only 21 and I’m thankful that my dad is alive and is feeling a lot better and is healing, slowly, but healing nonetheless. This Thanksgiving is going to be a good one and I am very thankful to be with my dad this holiday.

  37. Hey C.C I’m thankful for lots of things. First I am thankful for my health. I am especially thankful for this because my cousin and uncle have died from cancer. I am thankful for my family who support my through everything. I’m thankful for my friends who can always put a smile on my face and act crazy. I have always have had a hard time making friends and now that I have found close ones I hope we stay friends. I’m thankful for books because without them the world would be so different. I’m thankful for food that is on my table. I am thankful for being on your street team. I love your books and they always and how many times that I read them are amazing. I’m glad your husbands okay and Happy Thanksgiving.

  38. I am thankful for my boyfriend. I know that I probably sound like a love sick teenager, but he has saved my life. Before I found my boyfriend I was in a very bad place. My best friend at the time had completely cut me out of his life because of his girlfriend. My family was never there and I felt completely alone. I had met my now boyfriend in my Spanish 3 class and had recently given him my cell number. On the night before I officially started dating him I was prepared to commit suicide. I was alone and at a point that no one understood. My boyfriend had texted me and I didn’t respond. Then my friend had called because my boyfriend had asked him if I was okay. I simply said goodbye and hung up the phone. Five minutes later my boyfriend was banging on my door. Of course I didn’t answer. Then he climbed through my bedroom window and found me about the jump off the stairs and hang myself. When I saw him I jumped and he somehow managed to catch my feet and keep the rope from completely tightening. He sat me back on the stairs and climbed up and untied the rope. Now that I look back I’m really glad that I didn’t succeed in killing myself. Things had seemed like there was no way out at the time, but now things are better. I’m thankful everyday that he came over that day, that he didn’t give up when I didn’t answer the door, without him I wouldn’t be alive.

  39. I am thankful for having discovered books fairly early in my life. I honestly think books saved my life from becoming a super dark place (depression) I could hardly handle by myself. Having found books around the age of fifteen opened up my eyes to new adventures embarked by the awesome main characters from each story I read and even though I wasn’t the character, I always felt I was beside them watching what they were going through as well. It was the easiest and best escape for me and I can only hope other people going through similar situations find books and allow themselves to slowly heal as they keep turning the pages. Without ever having found YA books, I don’t know where I would be mentally today. So this Thanksgiving, I’m mostly thankful for all the wonderful authors out there (including you C.C. Hunter!) and the awesome books you all write and put out there for readers like myself to read. My life has become so much better! ^_^

  40. I am thankful for my love of reading and learning to read at such an early age. I love being able to read anything I want, and I am glad there are so many wonderful books out there!

  41. I’m thankful for my small family. Especially my cousin i have had custody of him for 18 years now and we had up and downs but he is the best blessing i have ever gotten. I love your books and can’t wait to read Miranda’s story. Your talent is amazing i am thankful for that as well.

  42. I am thankful for my family and being able to be with them another year. They are always there when I need them and help me out with anything. I am glad your husband received his kidney that he needed. My mom had cancer and she is now 3 years cancer-free!! That’s why nobody should ever take anything for granted especially spending time with your family because nobody knows what tomorrow holds!! 🙂 Also, thanks for the giveaway!! 🙂

  43. I’m thankful that high school doesn’t make me as depressed as middle school did. I’m thankful for my family, my friends, the friends that turned into family, and those who have stuck by me all this time. My fandoms also make me grateful as every person in them make me feel welcome and the books they stem from keep me entertained and sane 🙂 I love this year and I’m thankful that I’ve gotten over my past depression and look forward to a brighter future

  44. Cliche as it is, I’m thankful for my friends and family. I’m thankful that I have such great opportunities and am surrounded by people who love and care for me when so many people don’t have the same chance.

  45. This year I am thankful for my new job at a pet lodge. It feels great to be back at work, AND getting paid to spend the days with pooches and kitties.

  46. I am thankful that I have my family with me! If you’re in good health and have your family around you to love and support you what else can you ask for??

  47. There’s so much to be thankful for this year! I got to see my whole family for once in a holiday season! I got to spend it with both sides as well as work to earn a little bonus holiday pay.
I have 2 holiday jobs which wouldn’t have been possible had it not been for the lord helping me ace the interviews to get hired on the spot. Family members helping me with gas, gift money, and even food to get through the holidays without me even asking for any of it.
Family just knows when someone needs something but is just ashamed to ask. I work for everything that I have, so when I’m low on something, I see if I can get myself out first. I’m so blessed to have a lovely, generous, and precious family as mine.
My friends are also a great gift because they’re always there for me in the good times and bad. I wouldn’t trade any of them for the world because they are all one of a kind people that I hold close to my heart.
Just like in the Shadow Falls series, my friends are my everything, so I wouldn’t be here today without encouraging words/helping hands and hearts.
I’m also thankful for you! Without you, readers like myself would be lost in the literary world! I couldn’t imagine life without you and Shadow Falls! Thanks for being my #1 favorite author!

  48. I am thankful for so many things! Im thankful my family has always been there for me and supported me through good times and bad. I’m thankful for my friends, who will always have my back and are always there as a shoulder to cry on. I’m thankful for the opportunities I am presented and the life I have been given. I am thankful for all I have and all I will get. I am also thankful for the massive bookshelf I got last week (the Shadow Falls books have their own shelf). I am thankful for the authors who write and share creative and amazing stories that I have the privledge to read. I am thankful for so many things! Thank you for sharing your stories with the world, CC! You are my all time favorite author and your books are absolutely amazing and captivating!

  49. I am thankful for so many gifts!! My family (husband, son and boxer) that are all healthy well. My extended family, our moms and dads, siblings that are all doing well too. I’m thankful for my family’s support to pursue my dreams and encouraging me and I’m thankful for Gods love and faithfulness through all of life’s uncertainties.

  50. I am so thankful for my family. We have always been close. Everyone has their challenges, and we have certainly had some of our own thrown at us. Yet we come together to support each other. We make the time to be together, which is important as well. I am so blessed to have them.

  51. I’m glad that everything worked out. 🙂 What I’m thankful for is just everything right in my life. I’m thankful for my family and friends because they are always there whenever I need them and I’m always there for them. I’m thankful for all the books I have Lol. I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have them. And I’m just thankful for everything I have.

  52. I truly understand your pain as I have undergone the same when my father met an severe accident last year.As all is well today,I am thankful to my entire family and those who have been there for me.

  54. Oh this made me cry! That is SO AMAZING he finally got a kidney! I know how happy you all must be! I have had health issues my whole life. I don’t even remember a time I was “healthy” or “normal”. But as far back as I can remember, the one thing I wanted out of life, was to be a mother. All of my doctors have always told me not to have children, it would cause too much damage to my body and possibly kill me. That was just not an option for me. With the help of my mom, I kept my health the best possible. Fast forward to now, I am a mom! It’s the best thing that has ever happened to me! The love a mom has for her children is just indescribable. Unfortunately it did cause more problems with my health and my children all have different health problems as well 🙁 (now I know how my mom felt and why she was always so worried about me having kids) BUT I am thankful I am still here today raising them. I will always help them and take care of them! Even as an adult now, my mom still helps take care of me and I hope I will still be around to take care of my kids just as long 🙂
