Book Signings, Workshops and Laughter

I’ve often been asked what I’d be if I wasn’t a writer. My answer? A comedienne. And even though I chose to become a writer, I’m lucky enough to still be able to let the funny side of me out to play. It comes out in my writing (remember when Miranda turned Sock into a skunk?), but I also get to let it out when I teach a workshop or speak at a book signing.

I was in Tuscon, Arizona on Friday for a book signing at Mostly Books, and I never laughed so much. Some of the laughter came from me telling my stories ( I can laugh at myself), but much of it came from talking to my readers and other authors. If you can’t tell, I’m a people person, and writing is an isolated profession, so when I have the opportunity to visit and make new friends, I jump on it. And that’s what I did in Tuscon. So I thought I’d share a few of my photos.

ChristieHere I am giving my Deep Point of View workshop. Believe it or not, those are just some of the rejection notices that I received over the years. And that suitcase if full! But I loved standing up there helping other writers understand how to go deep into a character’s point of view to make their stories more complex and interesting. But I also got to make everyone laugh, too!

As you can tell, I had a great time in Tuscon. It was a place I’ve always wanted to go. I love going to these thing, but it’s also great to come home again.

  1. My favorite funny scene would have to be either the cafeteria fiasco with Kyle, her mom, her stepdad, John, Holiday, Burnett, Lucas, and Derek in Whispers at Moonrise because everything was spiraling out of control and you can’t help but laugh at how awkaward it all was. Or the scene in Taken at Dusk where Derek’s mom says to Kylie’s mom that they like each other right after Lucas announced he was Kylie’s boyfriend and the whole cafeteria basically gasps because it was so awkward and funny and you had to blush for Kylie. The second was probably my favorite of the two because Lucas said he was her boyfriend and come on, Lucas being open about feelings is something to cherish!:)

  2. I think my favorite funny scene was the diet coke six pack shirtless guy scene in Whispers at Moonrise! That was so funny especially when Lucas walked in! 🙂 🙂

  3. You have wrote many funny scenes in your books, but I believe the one that stands out the most is the one in Reborn. The scene where Kylie, Miranda, and Della are at the funeral home trying to get information about Della’s family. Miranda trying to help them escape turned the bad guys into kangaroos and gave them jock itch at the same time.

  4. I definitely find myself laughing out loud at your books, so I’m sure you could be a comedian if you want a part-time job! 🙂

  5. My favorite scene would be where Miranda turned Burnett into a kangaroo but I love all the books and their content. There are to many funny scenes for me to just list one and it would make for a long post too. Thanks for the great giveaway!!

  6. I’m so glad everyone is mentioning Miranda and her kangaroos. I loved writing her book. She has an innate sweetness to her. Sort of like Kylie.

  7. I think my favorite funny scene was when Holiday had Kylie test out her witch powers on the paperweight and it went zipping around the room finally hitting Burnett! I laughed so hard at this part! Its definitely one of the funnier parts I think.

  8. I’d have to say that one of my favorite scenes was when Kylie picked up the kitten (Perry) and cuddled him to her only to find out that it was our favorite shapeshifter. I love how she dragged him by his ears and threw him on his butt outside xD

  9. I loveee all of your books. They’re amazing and there are wayyyy too many funny scenes. But I really love the part where Kylie is showing Holiday her witch powers and accidentally hits Burnett on his boys LOL. That was hilarious! I also love the part where Sarah and Kylie’s mom come to visit her and they meet Lucas, and then Derek’s mom tells her how sweet she is with Derek and the whole cafeteria hears!!! Omg talk about awkward!

And from your After Dark series I love the scene where Della first meets Chase and when Chase looks through Della’s backpack and sees her PJs!

I cant wait to find what my favorite scenes are going to be in Miranda’s novellas! Thanks for the giveaway!

  10. I love the Shadow falls series. My favorite scene is definitely from Della’s series. In Eternal, when Della and Chase are in the car. Della spots her dad in a car next to them and to avoid him seeing them together, she dives into his lap, making Chase jump out of his seat. I laughed so much. 🙂

  11. My favorite scene is when Chase attacked the guy in the bar for calling Della for a “walk”. I think it was both cute and funny cause it shows that Chase does care about Della alote. 😀

  12. The kangaroo scene!! I loved it so much! When I first read it I was like, “What?!” Then I spent a few minutes laughing into my mattress. I found it entirely ridiculous and hilarious. I loved it so much and I am grateful for the many laughs you have graced the world with.

  13. I would have to say my Favorited parts are anyone of Della’s come backs! They are so awesome, I sometimes just read over those parts over and over again. I also find my self laughing so hard during the book, my parents they probably think I’m crazy but whatever lol!! You should come to Kitchener in Ontario!! I would love to meet you!!

  14. I really wish that I could go to one of your book signings and meet you, that would be so amazing! I would love to see how you are in person. It would als be very awesome to come close to South Carolina! Thank you

  15. There are so many funny scenes to choose from! It’s been a few years since I’ve read the Shadow Falls series, but a funny scene that I remember would be when Kylie unknowingly picks up Perry and a kitten.

  16. I have three favorite funny scenes.
    1. When Kylie barged in on Derek in the shower because she thought he was in danger but he just had a nose bleed. That was also probably my favorite Kylie and Derek scene.
    2. When Kylie threw her towel on to her dresser but didn’t realise Lucas was sitting on her bed. I was laughing so hard I was happy Della didn’t tell her Lucas was in there.
    3. My absolute favorite is probably the scene where the boys were playing basketball and Steve threw the basketball at Chase! I’ve never laughed so hard that scene was absolute perfection.

  17. I love the part when Chase caught Della staring at him when the guys were playing basketball, and then Steve threw a basketball at his head. Hilarious XD

  18. My favorite funny part is when Miranda turns the bad guys (the guys who were selling new vampires) into Kangaroos.
You really could be a comedian because when I listened to you speak at Another Anime Convention in NH all I could do was laugh. You are a wonderful speaker and entertainer!! I would definitely go see you at another event! 🙂

  19. My favorite scene has to be when Della throws her head in Chase’s lap!! LOVE IT!!!
Your Shadow Falls books all rock!!!! Thank you so much!!

  20. It’s hard to choose a favorite lol moment being there’s too many to choose from. This has been the only book series that has really made me laugh out loud throughout every book. I think whenever I’ve read in public & bursted out laughing, the people around must of thought I was mental, lol. But if I have to choose, I’d have to say that Burnett being turned into a kangaroo was pretty funny as well as the bad guys with the jock itch, lol, what a sight that’d be them hoping & itching at the same time. I also enjoyed the kitten being turned into a skunk. Also Della cracks me up, she’s something else. I’d love to see this series made into a movie, but only if it stuck to the books. 🙂

  21. I really like the time Della was in the car with chase and she seen her dad in the next car over on the highway so she had to take a nose dive into chases crotch.

  22. There are so many funny scenes on all of your books but I have to say that my favorite was when Kylie turns invisible at the cafeteria and then she reappears in the bathrooms but when she gets out of the cubicle she notice that she is actually in the boys bathrooms in then she started screaming and the guys who were pissing (one of them was Perry) turned around and she covers her eyes and runs out of the bathrooms but as she exit her mom sees her getting out of the boys bathrooms… My god that was so amazing and it had me laughing for hours.

  23. My favorite funny part would probably be when Miranda turned Burnett into a kangaroo. I couldn’t stop laughing! Just picturing Burnett’Burnett ‘s mad kangaroo face is making me laugh right now!

  24. I have really really enjoyed your books and have become to feel like I am right there beside Kylie, sharing all her problems!!! I just spend all day reading Shadow Falls!! So, my favorite funny scene is the one where Kylie is fussing over this cute cat and checks what gender it is and comes to find out that it was Derick who had shape shifted into a cat!!!!!!
