Things That Make Me Smile

I’m generally a happy person. I laugh a lot. I’ve found the secret to being happy is appreciating the small things. These are just some of the things that make me smile.

Spending time with my granddaughter.  Since she was young, she would take a bubble bath in my Jacuzzi tub.  We still love doing it.

Food.  Food that is good, but maybe not so good for you.  Chocolate, ice cream, and fried chicken.  (Hey, I’m from Alabama, I have to love fried chicken) Recently, hubby and I went out and were served fried chicken that looked like a heart.

A good book.  Okay, I told you ice cream makes me smile, but I have to tell you, books are better than ice cream.  There is nothing like losing yourself in a good book.  It takes you away from your own problems, from your own stresses, and sweeps you into a story.  Reading is a vacation for the mind. And you can’t go wrong with The Problem With Forever by Jennifer Armentrout or Some Boys by Patty Blount or How To Be Brave by Katherine Kottaras.

Everyone who knows me, knows I honestly believe that our pets teach us to be better humans.  Lady not only forces me to go for a walk every day, but she insists on play time and on petting time.  Whenever I’m laughing and having a good time, lady will grab a toy and bring it to me.

The things that make me smile most in life are my animals. I have a corgi that is probably one of my best friends, a rescued mutt that means more than life to me, and four cats that give me affection everyday. Even when I come home exhausted from work but see their happy faces, my heart gives a little dance.

  2. Kellie says:

One of the things that makes me smile is seeing my unborn son on an ultrasound or hearing his heartbeat. I’m due next month and everytime I see him or hear his little heartbeat it makes me smile. There are no words to describe how it makes me feel

  3. Sarita B says:

Reading has always been my escape and always causes me to smile when things become bad in life. My close friends and my grandmother. It’s always good to have great people in your life that you can trust and who causes you to laugh.

  4. Kanyon K. says:

My family makes me smile. There’s something relaxing about coming home to them and enjoying the night. My little one cracks me up. You never know what comes out of little kids mouths. Books also make me smile. I’m never more happy than reading or finding new books!

The thing that makes me smile is my dog, my family, and reading. My dog Daisy, I got for my 16th birthday and I love her with all my heart, she makes my day and makes me laugh so much. My family, motivates me every day and just make me smile and laugh. Lastly, reading, I stopped reading when I was 6, then my best friend got me back to reading, and been obsessed since. I love your book and can’t wait for your new book.

  6. Nikki says:

Things that make me smile, hmm, the list is long. Here are a few though, sunshine pouring through my windows in the morning makes me smile instantly. Hiking by the water on a warm day is impossible without a smile. I smile with my friends while we share countless laughs. My family and my dog also make me smile. Lastly, I smile while sitting on my deck with a smoothie in one hand and a book in the other, soaking in sun!

  7. Hannah says:

What makes me smile? Hmm, well I think I’ll just tell you a fairly recent story. I had this friend who dated this guy, and he was a sweetest person but he was kind of an “outcast” if that’s the word you want to use for it. He was shy, had trouble making friends and opening up in general. So this year, in April, I was on my bus and I saw him again, only he looked so different. He lost his glasses, was surrounded by friends and was laughing. In the two years than I last saw him, Gone was the shy, introverted person I knew since middle school. It made smile like an idiot to see him s.o happy and comfortable in his skin.

  8. Victoria Alonso says:

My puppy makes me smile everyday. He’s always wagging his tail and running around in circles when he sees me and my brothers. I love those moments when all of us are together.

  9. Shannon Mongold says:

What makes me smile is seeing my Family happy! What makes me happy is relaxing with a nice book outside with a warm breeze going and getting totally sucked into the book that i feel like i’m really living it. What makes me smile is having a tickle fight with my husband, we might be in our mid 20’s but it’s still fun. What makes me smile is when my son wakes up from a deep sleep just to come wake me up because he wants a hug. What makes me smile is a nice warm piece of cake with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. This is what makes me smile, these are the thing that mean the most to me.

  10. Courtney H says:

Making other people smile makes me smile…I love when that happens! My family makes me smile too, especially my little brother and niece and nephews. Animals, chocolate, thunderstorms, friends, and of course reading also put me in a good place and brings on the smiles :)

  11. Gabrielle Saunders says:

Here’s a list of things that make me smile: books (especially yours!), writing a scene I’ve been trying to get right and finally did, my niece (she’s almost 2), books events…. Hmmm, there seems to be a trend other than my niece. 😀

  12. Anne Stone says:

I’m going to be redundant in my response I’m sure. The two things that popped into my head when I think of this question… 1. Watching my kids do what they love. Daughter singing and acting and my son playing baseball. It makes me happy. 2. My two dogs. How can i not smile? They are little characters…so happy to see me. Sweethearts!

  13. Casey W. says:

Reading always makes me smile. I escape into another world. My four dogs, Peanut, Reco, Miracle, and Rocky make me smile all the time. They’re great snuggle buddies :) Reading while laying down with my dogs makes me feel so comfortable and relaxed. Having my books and my dogs around always make me feel so much better.

  14. Monica says:

Sunsets and sun rays in the clouds! But most of all my grandsons, their laugh is contagious and innocent!! I love them more than I ever could have imagined!! And of course books, books and more books make me smile

  15. Gayle Jackson says:

Waking up without my alarm. Getting a new book in a series. Watching my kids perform.

  16. Lori says:

Sunshine, my kids’ snarky comments that come out of nowhere, a good book with witty dialogue, and when I get a scene just right after agonizing over it for what feels like forever!

  17. bn100 says:

    family, good book

  18. Mannat says:

My younger twin brothers always make me smile. They goof off and make jokes that don’t make any sense and I always end up laughing. I can say that they have never done any bad in their life. What warms my heart is that whenever they see any of their sisters crying they can’t stand it. They immediately start asking the person who hurt me why did they hurt me. I will always love my baby brothers. I couldn’t think of anyone (other than my twin sister) who makes me so happy.

  19. Ashley Hitchcock says:

The things that make me smile the most are my animals. I live on a farm, and there’s rarely a day that goes by when I go down to the barn and don’t smile. My goats (Bonnie, Clyde, Doc, and Billy) greet me by playfully running circles around me. Jack, the donkey, tries to eat my hair if I can’t feed him fast enough. Even our rabbits (Mickey and Riley) make me smile with the sweet little faces they make. I could go on and on, but I’ll just say that my animals make me smile because of how sweet and innocent they are. It also makes me happy that they give me a purpose: I’m responsible for them and they depend on me.

  20. Jizeru Montesu says:

what makes me smile is reading books and watching Anime. But also seeing the people I care about happy.

  21. Clarissa says:

Honestly, a lot of things make me happy and make me smile. The most recent thing though is what is going on right now. Over the last hour I have looked over passed books I’ve read and loved. I always forget how much I loved the stories and how they have shaped me over my entire teenage life. So I guess you could say books make me happy because they take me on journeys that I would never experience out in the real world. They make me smile (and sometimes tear up) when I look back at them and remember the memories I had while reading. I guess I still do that because I still read, so overall books make me happy.

  22. Sue Chi says:

Many things and many people make me smile, but the most important one is my friends and family. They are the ones who are there for me when I need them and the ones who are with me through the best of times. Making them smile is what makes me smile. I can’t smile and be happy if my friends and family aren’t smiling. Its hard, so the best way for me to be happy, is for my friends and family to be happy. BE HAPPY!!!

  23. Wendi Wilson says:

My goofy almost-9-year-old son belting out tunes in the shower makes me smile! It’s hilarious!

  24. Luz says:

I guess I can say a lot of things can make me smile. Some things make me happier than others but I try to have a positive outlook on life and smile just cuz. I have been told “you laugh at EVERYTHING” but I’d rather be feel happy than bitter. Appreciate everything in life, even the bad. To every bad there is good. Got laundry to wash and are lazy? At least you have clothes. Don’t want to mop your house? At least you even have a home.
